Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Van Nest

A New Jersey native,  I am a graduate of Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and worked in the radio and newspaper industries. I received my teaching credential from Chapman University, worked at Lemoore High School and Hanford High School, and have been teaching Language Arts at Pioneer Middle School since 2007.

My family has lived in Virginia, Pennsylvania, San Diego, and Hawaii, settling in Hanford upon my husband's Navy retirement. My children are both Pioneer graduates.

I love to read; my favorite book is To Kill A Mockingbird. When not reading, I like to travel, go to concerts, movies, and plays, and watch sports.

Everyone needs to understand what we read, see, and hear and communicate about it in writing or speaking.  In a world where there is so much information swirling around us, we need to evaluate the sources of information to determine which are reliable so that we can make informed decisions.  My goal in Language Arts is to equip students with the tools with which to do that and opportunities to practice.
