I'm the one in the blue sweater...
Hey, I'm Mrs. Vaughn and I teach the 7th and 8th grade STEM elective courses, the Leadership class and oversee Associated Student Body (ASB) here at Pioneer Middle School. I have been teaching at Pioneer Middle school since 2006.
Before teaching....I earned B.S. degree in geology at Fresno State. While at Fresno State, I spent a semester abroad to study the ecology, geology, and art history of New Zealand, Australia, and Indonesia. While working towards both a master's degree in geology and earning my teaching credential at San Jose State University (SJSU), I worked for the U.S. Geological Survey for five years doing research on deep-sea mineral deposits of the Pacific Ocean. I have been published in numerous scientific journals, have worked on projects throughout California, Nevada, and Idaho, and have conducted research at sea.
While at SJSU, I became a teaching assistant and taught 3 semesters of an Earth science lab for non-majors. I graduated from Fresno Pacific University with a Master's degree in STEM education in 2018. My thesis' topic is the relationship between female's spatial skills and interest in science.
I have competitively synchronized ice-skated in two national championships and raced BMX and cyclocross. I enjoy reading, riding any kind of bike, and watching Netflix in my free time. I still ride occasionally with my son at the BMX track.
I look forward to getting to know and inspiring a love of STEM and Computer Science in my students this school year!
